Model HAT/FP Freeze Protection Valves

Freeze Protection Valve for Pressures to 300 psig (20.7 bar) (2068 k Pa) Model HAT/FP Freeze Protection Valve

Operation
On falling temperatures a thermostatic element senses water temperature and the valve modulates open. A sample of the water in the line then flows past the element. If the water temperature is sufficiently high, the valve shuts off. If the water temperature is low the valve modulates as needed to promote flow. Valve is full open at 35 degrees F (2 degrees C) on using temperatures the valve will be fully closed at 40 degrees F (4.4 degrees C).

Applications
HAT/FP valves are ideal for protection of piping, fittings, pumps, condensate systems, safety showers, fire lines, spray nozzles, freeze sensitivie equipment or backup protection on traced systems/equipment. The "AA" model is recommended for protecting compressed air systems. Have a special application? We can design a freeze protection system for you. Give us a call at (608) 635-7800!

Model IC/FP Freeze Protection Cartridge

freeze protection

Product Details
Typically, freeze protection is effected by cracking open manual bleed valves. This method is at best risky. Human error or plugging of partially cracked valves annually accounts for millions of dollars in freeze damage. IC/FP valves eliminate this type of problem by automating protection, reducing water consumption and eliminating damage and down time. The unique ram-type plug and seat provide reliable, tight shutoff longer than any other design available. The easily replaceable pre-calibrated cartridges minimize downtime during maintenance. All IC/FP valves are factory tested and covered by an 18 month prorated warranty.
Model Operation
Under normal operating conditions, water passes through a virtually unobstructed 1" NPT or larger tee body, allowing this valve to be used in higher flow lines. The IC/FP will screw into any 3/4" NPT threaded opening with adequate internal clearance. When the fluid temperature approaches freezing, and freeze damage is imminent, the thermal actuator located in the fluid stream modulates the valve open. When the makeup water temperature returns to the safe range, the valve then modulates closed, minimizing water loss. Due to the actuator's placement in the fluid stream, this valve is unaffected by ambient air temperature, and opens only when the water is in danger of freezing, being open at 35°F (1.7°C) and closed at 40°F (4.4°C).
Design Features
  • Easily maintained
  • Pre-calibrated replacement cartridges available
  • Modulation throughout entire range to conserve water
  • Corrosion resistant - Long service life
  • Most Narrow temperature band available
  • Ram-type plug for reliable tight shutoff
  • Sensitive to fluid temperature only
  • Unaffected by pressure variations
  • Easy installation with pipe wrench

Model HAT/SP Scald Protection Valves

For Scald Protection — Heat Actuated Trap/Reverse Acting

Operation
When the fluid temperature rises above safe limits and a danger of scalding exists, the thermal actuator modulates the valve open. A small sample of the water from the pipe system then flows past the sensor. If the water is above the acceptable range, the valve will continue to modulate open until the over-temperature water is elminated. When the makeup water temperature returns to the safe range, the valve modulates closed. The HAT/SP-105 is full open at 105 degrees F and remains open until water temperature is 95 degrees F or below. The HAT/SP-115 is full open at 115 degrees F and closed at 105 degrees F and below.

Applications
Solar heating of pipe systems can cause extremely high temperatures at the point of use resulting in a safety hazard for plant personnel. When installed in safety showers, eyewash stations and other sensitive locations, and exposed to solar radiation - the HAT/SP will be heated just as the pipe system it is attached to. The valve will open to establish flow until the over-temperature water is eliminated, and will them modulate closed.

Design Features

  • HAT/SP-105 meets OSHA temperature guidelines.
  • Stainless steel body, fittings, spring and plug.
  • Compact, low mass - fast response.
  • Corrosion resistant for long service life.
  • Easy installation with pipe wrench.
  • Installs in any orientation.
  • Unaffected by pressure variations.
  • Discharges the minimum amount of water required to keep water temperature within safe limits.

Model IC/SP Scald Protection Cartridge

scald protection

Product Details
The IC/SP valve continually senses water temperature and automatically bleeds excessively hot water from safety shower/eyewash systems. Protection is provided with minimal water consumption. The unique plug and seat design offers the most reliable, tight shutoff available. The easily replaceable pre-calibrated cartridge minimizes downtime during maintenance. All IC/SP valves are factory tested and covered by an 18 month prorated warranty.
Model Operation
Under normal operating conditions, water passes through a virtually unobstructed 1” or larger NPT tee, allowing this valve to be used in higher flow lines. The IC/SP will screw into any 3/4” NPT threaded opening with adequate internal clearance*. When the water temperature rises above safe limits, and a danger of scalding exists, the thermal actuator located in the fluid stream modulates the valve open. When the water temperature returns to the safe range, the valve then modulates closed, minimizing water loss. Due to the actuator's placement in the fluid stream, this valve is unaffected by ambient air temperature and is open at 105°F (41°C) and will remain open until water temperature is 95°F (35°C) or below.
Design Features
  • Temperature meets OSHA guidelines
  • Easily maintained
  • Pre-calibrated replacement cartridges available
  • Corrosion resistant – long service life
  • Most clog-resistant design available
  • Most narrow temperature band available
  • Modulation throughout range to conserve water, yet will eliminate large quantities of over-temperature water when required
  • Sensitive to fluid temperature only
  • Unaffected by pressure variations
  • Easily installed with pipe wrench

Therm-O-Mix Station Instant Tempered Water Supply for Safety Showers

All weather high capacity instant tempered water supply for safety shower and eye wash stations using steam and cold water.

Operation
When the shower or eyewash station is activated, the pressure drop on a diaphragm opens a steam control valve. Water and steam flow are established instantly heating the water and condensing the steam. A water-mixing valve then blends the heated water with cold water to produce an output of 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) water. Additional valves keep the system preheated, freeze protected and scald protected.

Design Features

  • No insulated tanks or expensive recirculation systems required.
  • Maintains constant 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) output regardless of inlet water temperature (between 40 degrees F and 85 degrees F).
  • Uses existing plant steam and water supply.
  • Provides 3 to 30 GPM of 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) water with an inlet water pressure of 45 PSI.
  • Easy to install on existing shower or eyewash/shower stations.
  • Compact, lightweight design, self-purging.
  • Plant steam & water never mix...uses compact hi-capacity heat exchanger.
  • Freeze and solar over-temperature protection included.
  • All components are in-line field serviceable.
  • Conforms to OSHA and ANSI recommendations.
  • Bright yellow color enhances visibility of safety shower station.
